５月５日は日本の祝日、端午の節句です。この日には、庭や屋外に鯉のぼりを飾る習慣があります。一番上にあるものは吹流し、その下がお父鯉、母鯉、一番下が子供の鯉です。鯉は強い魚で、流れが速い川でも元気に泳ぎ、滝をも登り、登り切った鯉は龍になると言われています。 そんなたくましい鯉のように、子どもたちが元気に大きくなること願う意味が込められています。吹き流しは、神様に守ってもらう家の場所をお知らせするための目印と言われています。
